Russia is the largest country in the world in terms of area, being about 1.8 times the size of the United States. It is situated in the Eastern part of Europe and the Northern part of Asia. Its capital city is Moscow, and the country is home to 145.5 million people. The climate in this huge country ranges from steppes in the south through humid continental in European Russia, and sub arctic in Siberia to tundra in the polar north. Russia holds many natural resources, such as oil, natural gas, coal, and timber. However, due to unfavorable climate and terrain, it can be difficult to exploit these natural resources. Similarly, much of the land in Russia lacks the proper soil or climate for agriculture. Russia is considered a highly educated nation, as there is 99.6% adult literacy, with more than 40% of the population having university degrees.
